Empowering Political Participation of Persons with Disabilities in Arab Countries

Project Summary:

In collaboration with the National Democratic Institute in Washington, USA, this project focuses on Tunisia, Lebanon, Libya, and Morocco, with a special emphasis on individuals and organizations of persons with disabilities in Syrian refugee camps in Lebanon. The project’s core objectives encompass the following:

  1. Equipping participants to conduct rapid assessment research and devise national campaigns aimed at elevating the engagement of persons with disabilities in political and decision-making processes.
  • Providing support to disability organizations in the aforementioned countries to foster alliances with decision-makers, notably within representative bodies, including parliamentary and local councils, municipalities, and provincial councils.

Project Achievements:

  • Crafting a comprehensive 3-year strategy for AFRPD
    • Formulating a robust fundraising strategy for AFRPD
    • Devising an impactful public outreach and advocacy strategy for AFRPD
    • Establishing an informative and user-friendly AFRPD website
    • Hosting a regional training workshop on the methodology of rapid assessment research and its application.
    • Executing rapid assessment research initiatives. Directly following the initial training workshop, participants initiate rapid assessment research to examine the participation of persons with disabilities in political spheres.
    • Conducting a regional training workshop focused on designing and executing advocacy campaigns to enhance the political involvement of persons with disabilities.
    • Hosting a second regional workshop addressing the tools and techniques for creating and implementing advocacy campaign plans aimed at enhancing the role of persons with disabilities in political and decision-making processes across Arab nations.
    • Launching advocacy campaigns to amplify the political engagement of persons with disabilities. Upon completion of workshop activities and presentation of advocacy campaign projects, participants initiate their respective national campaigns.
